Course Description
This course is for students planning to teach at the elementary level including practices, trends and philosophy of music education. Students are encouraged to integrate music within the classroom, enriching and solidifying all subject presentations.

For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.

The mission of the Humanities and Social Sciences is to foster an appreciation of the role that the humanities and social sciences has played in the evolution of civilized society and to explore the ways that an understanding of theory and practice in philosophy, the social and behavioral sciences, the fine arts, and written and oral expression will enable students to participate thoughtfully in a global society.

  1. Students will demonstrate the ability to research music and musicians appropriate for use in the elementary classroom and write out comprehensive lesson plans.
  2. Students will develop and teach lessons to their classmates.
  3. The critical thought outcome will be measured by classroom discussions and exams that are designed to encourage students to engage in factual, insightful, rational, and evaluative analysis.
