This course is intended primarily to give prospective teachers the opportunity to consider seriously their suitability for a career in education. Must enroll in ED1103 Introduction to Education concurrently.

For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.

The mission of the Humanities and Social Sciences is to foster an appreciation of the role that the humanities and social sciences has played in the evolution of civilized society and to explore the ways that an understanding of theory and practice in philosophy, the social and behavioral sciences, the fine arts, and written and oral expression will enable students to participate thoughtfully in a global society.

  1. The students will demonstrate an understanding of the educational environment, teaching techniques, similarities of teaching situations, those who work in the education environment and the competencies required in the journal kept, competencies completed, and time spent in the field experience.
  2. Students will demonstrate their critical thinking skills, ability to communicate in writing, and understanding of the educational environment in the completion of their journals, field observation final exam and competencies completed.

  1. Students will be required to keep a journal that will give a description of their field experience. They will be graded on the content of their journal and their time within the classroom completing observations.
  2. The students will reflect upon their field experience opportunities to create an oral presentation to the class, sharing their insights of the classroom and what factual and insightful analysis they gathered from their observations of experienced and effective teachers.
  3. The student's critical thinking outcome will be measured by requiring them to make a critical analysis of the field experiences that they participate in and/or observe. This engages the student in factual, insightful, rational, and evaluative analysis concerning their field experience.
