The instructor course consists of theoretical and practical instruction in the field of teaching. This curriculum and course of study are designed to instruct a student in basic teaching methods using the Mindful Teaching approach and the latest in interactive education and technology. Following sound educational principles, the program allows each student to observe and assist experienced instructors in performing their duties and skill demonstrations, to have supervised teaching practice and to thoroughly study the principles of teaching.
For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.
The cosmetology program's mission is to provide comprehensive learning through innovative and quality-focused services that advance the economic career opportunities for students and meet the desires and demands of the industry, businesses, and the community.
Outcome #1: Read with comprehension, be critical of what they read, and apply knowledge gained from their reading to broader issues of the day.
Outcome #3: Communicate their ideas clearly and proficiently in speaking, appropriately adjusting content and arrangement for varying audiences, purposes, and situations
- Students will demonstrate the ability to use proper classroom management to minimize disruptions and maximize self-discipline, thereby increasing the potential for learning to occur.
- Students will demonstrate appropriate planning strategies to meet the instructional needs of a wide variety of learners.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to use best practice instructional methods to meet the learning needs of a variety of learners in education programs.
- Students will demonstrate understanding and application of assessment, feedback and grading practices for indicating student progress and helping learners become self-directed learners.
