Course Description

This course covers introductory instruction of variable frequency drives (VFD), motor controllers, NEC code, electrical schematics and automated systems.

For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.

  1. Evaluate troubles and apply standard motor practices using electrical publications and drawings.
  2. Install, understand programming and troubleshoot building automation controls, variable frequency drives, and programmable logic controllers.
  3. Identify critical parts of the National Electrical Code.
  4. Apply math principles found when working with electrical motors.
