Course Description

A study of economics principles with special emphasis on their applicability and current utilization in the field of agriculture. The principles of economics and their use in sustaining or questioning current economic policy will be a central theme of this course. For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.

  1. Describe basic micro- and macro-economic principles involved in the production of food and fiber including consumer choice, supply, demand, competition, market regulation, and single/variable level inputs.
  2. Examine agriculture’s role in state, national, and international economics.
  3. Recognize international economic policy’s role in world food supply and demand.
  4. Describe the role and functions of the US Farm Credit System.
  5. Discuss US rural development and rural natural resources.
