Permission is required before enrollment in this course which is designed to give the student on-the-job training in a selected training station under the supervision of an employer and a coordinating instructor. The student, instructor, and employer will file progress and evaluation reports, attend arranged conferences, and keep a continuous record of the on-the-job experience. The student must work a minimum of 90 clock hours for the semester to receive the two credit hours. The student may have only four (4) hours of Internship to count toward graduation.

For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.

Program and/or Department Mission Statement

The mission of the accounting program at Seward County Community College is to prepare students in the accounting discipline for occupational careers, transfer programs, continuing education, personal needs and/or other related business careers.

Course Outcomes

The internship is designed to provide the student with an opportunity to gain on-the-job experience in selected training stations that are consistent with occupational areas related to the Accounting profession.

Course Outline

Each student is dealt with in a customized manner. The following represents a series of steps common to all students.

  1. After the student is enrolled there is an agreement/contract developed for the internship.
  2. The instructor and the student will establish meeting times where any problems will be reviewed, and additional instruction will be addressed.
  3. The instructor will make periodic on-site visits or telephone inquiries. They will vary in number due to the location of the student'�s job and the progress the student is making in his/her position.
  4. During these contacts, the instructor will discuss the student'�s training areas and progress with the cooperating employer. At the time of the on-site visits, the instructor will observe the activities of the student during the course of a regular workday.
  5. Weekly time sheets will be signed by the employer, student and instructor. The time sheets will be turned in to the instructor each week by the student.

Methods of Assessment

Methods of assessing the SCCC instructional outcomes 1, 4, 5, 6, & 9, general course outcomes and the specific course competencies include the following:

  1. Employer rating on the course competencies
  2. Instructor rating from observations, contacts with employer and discussions with student
  3. Evaluation of progress reports and time sheets
  4. The student will comply with all employee work regulations of the employer. The employer and the student will agree upon hours, workdays, wages, time off, etc. The student must contact the instructor prior to resigning his/her position while enrolled in the internship. Unethical or illegal actions taken by the student on the job will result in a grade reduction or dismissal from the internship.
