  2. Explain safety procedures including vehicle inspection, cargo securement, and hours of service.
  3. Identify hazard awareness strategies and safe driving techniques.
  4. Apply knowledge of federal regulations related to CDL operation.
  5. Successfully complete the FMCSA-required online ELDT knowledge assessment.
Instructional Methods

Instruction will be delivered entirely online using the CarriersEdge ELDT curriculum platform. The course is self-paced within the two-week session, allowing students to progress through 25 structured modules. Each module includes interactive lessons, multimedia content, and an end-of-module quiz to assess mastery. Instructors will monitor progress, provide support as needed, and ensure that students meet the federal requirements for theory training.

Instructional Resources and Materials

All instructional content for this course is provided through CarriersEdge, an FMCSA-approved training provider. Students will be given access to the online platform at the beginning of the course. Required resources include:

  • CarriersEdge Online Modules (25 modules aligned with FMCSA ELDT standards)
  • Embedded Quizzes at the end of each module
  • Final Theory Average automatically calculated and submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry (TPR)

No additional textbook purchase is required. Students must have access to a reliable computer or mobile device and internet connection to complete the course.

Methods of Assessment

Student learning will be assessed through module-based quizzes and the calculation of a final theory score:

  • Module Quizzes: Each of the 25 modules concludes with a quiz designed to measure understanding of the material. Students must achieve a minimum score of 80% or higher on each quiz to demonstrate mastery.
  • Completion Requirement: All modules and quizzes must be completed in order to receive credit for the course.
  • Final Theory Score: The CarriersEdge system calculates an overall average score based on the student’s performance across all modules. This score is reported to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry (TPR) as the official theory training record.

No additional papers, projects, or exams are required. Assessment is to ensure compliance with federal ELDT standards.
