Course Description

A course designed to initiate the student into practical application of social sciences in the nature of serving on the Student Government Association. The student will be in a position that forces him or her to resolve conflicts that arise before the Association. In short, the student will learn the basics of governmental processes. The students are required to attend all SGA meetings and specific scheduled activities. The SGA assists the college administration by handling student input and presenting it to the proper people, overseeing campus club activities and administering governmental related activities involving students of the college.

For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.

The mission of the Humanities and Social Sciences is to foster an appreciation of the role that the humanities and social sciences has played in the evolution of civilized society and to explore the ways that an understanding of theory and practice in philosophy, the social and behavioral sciences, the fine arts, and written and oral expression will enable students to participate thoughtfully in a global society.

Outcome 8. 1. Attendance at one Board of Trustees meeting.

Outcome 9. 1. Class attendance- Due to the participation-oriented/lab structure of the course attendance is required to achieve a passing grade. The only excused absences will be other college activities.

As a personal and professional courtesy, students must make arrangements IN ADVANCE for known college activity absences via phone at (620)417-1064 or by note to the student activities office.

  1. Participate in SGA activities to maintain a high participation grade. SGA activities include Homecoming, Elections, etc.
  2. Evaluation of performance by the sponsor/instructor and the student.
