Course Description

This is an online course that emphasizes the critical thinking skills required for an advanced respiratory care practitioner. The course content includes an extensive review of the application of all respiratory care learned while in the program. In addition, this course utilizes computer-based respiratory care clinical scenarios which require the student to assemble and analyze patient data and make therapeutic and diagnostic recommendations. The students will participate in a webinar exam review to prepare them further for the national board exam.

For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.

The respiratory therapy program of Seward County Community College will provide an educational forum responsive to the needs of the health care community by developing competent and compassionate respiratory care practitioners.

Methods of Assessment

SCCC Outcomes 1, 4, and 5 will be assessed and measured by examination and student performance on the therapist multiple choice exam and proctored online clinical simulation exams.

SCCC Outcome 6 will be assessed and measured by online class participation and ability to successfully complete the course with a 75% or better.

SCCC Outcome 7 will be assessed and measured by presentations and class discussions and application of classroom content in clinical facilities.
