Course Description

An introduction into vocal and instrumental conducting. Starting with basic beat patterns and progressing into more advanced rhythms. Besides having a chance to conduct in class, the student will have a chance to conduct in front of the choir or wind ensemble. This should enhance the appreciation and apprehension of being in front of an ensemble.

For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.

  1. The critical though outcomes will be measured by classroom discussion, the collaborative exercises are designed to stimulate students to engage in factual, insightful, rational, and evaluative analysis.
  2. Students will be required to research the composers of their performance works. Their comprehension of this will be measured by classroom discussion, and written critiques.
