Course Description

This is a course in learning the basic skills in the working of hot glass in three media areas: hot glass with blowpipes and manipulative tools, hot bead making with a lamp working torch, and hot kiln glass working (fusing and slumping).

For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.

Course Outline
  1. Use of the Blowpipe, Puntil, and tools for blowing glass.
  2. Different properties of glass
  3. Use of minor torch for lamp work
  4. Kiln glass working process,and procedures
  5. Elements of design
  6. Possible creative avenues and techniques
  7. Exhibition of glass work
  8. Final exam will be a portfolio of glass works in the three areas of focus: blowing, lamp working, and fusing/slumping

  1. Students will analyze and critique their own and other student's work as a part of the process of developing aesthetic awareness and technical skills. Students will utilize these insights to further the development of their own work.
