This course covers introductory instruction of variable frequency drives (VFD), motor controllers, NEC code, electrical schematics and automated systems.
For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.

Students who complete this course will be able to at an introductory level:
- Evaluate troubles and apply standard motor practices using electrical publications and drawings.
- Install, understand programming and troubleshoot building automation controls, variable frequency drives, and programmable logic controllers.
- Identify critical parts of the National Electrical Code.
- Apply math principles found when working with electrical motors.
