Master Syllabus AG2804, Principles of Livestock Reproduction

The study of physiological and biological processes of reproduction in farm animals including reproductive biology, growth, and development. In the laboratory, emphasis on artificial insemination, estrous synchronization, embryo production via multiple ovulation embryo transfer (MOET) and in vitro fertilization (IVF), cryopreservation of gametes or embryos, and pregnancy determination.

For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.

  3. Examine the various stages of gestation and how events during pregnancy affect the growth and development of both pre- and post-natal attributes.

Methods of Assessment
  1. SCCC Outcome #1 will be assessed and measured by class participation and reading in class handouts.
  2. SCCC Outcome #2 will be assessed and measured by writing a paper examining different reproductive stages and technologies.
  3. SCCC Outcome #5 will be assessed and measured by exams and papers.
